The Ragster Collage

I would first like to say thank you to those who responded with such positive comments on my last project excursion.  I apologize for not responding to each of your comments, but I am still trying to figure this blog thing out, and will be working this evening on how to respond to comments (uuuggghhghhh).  I am already feeling grateful to have such wonderful artists reviewing my work, and that of my young Jedis as they become live for viewing.  I have always been timid on posting work, but I am quickly gaining confidence thanks to the wonderful feedback.  I am posting my collage for your VTS experience, and I am very excited to hear the reviews.  Thanks for your support, and thanks for this class, as I have already learned and enjoyed so much!  I must warn you, there is a lot to look at.

Here We Go!

My VTS ….What’s going on in this piece of art? I feel almost like I am looking at one of those I Spy books that are so popular with my students, I keep noticing new things every time I look at this collage.

To me this could be the self portrait of a ‘brainy’ individual. The location of the Air Force insignia tells me that your time spent in the military remains a central part of your character. You are a teacher, but could the placement of Grover indicate also enjoy shaping the knowledge of your your own child(ren), the ‘Apple(s) of your eye? The text, mandolin and flat top guitar (looks like a Martin to me) ears tell me that you enjoy both playing as well as listening to bluegrass music. The three Skittles make me wonder if there are three members of your family, one female and two male, who you are very ‘sweet’on. I’d say that Rust T is a person with many interests – art, sports, Civil war, scary movies. The eye patch tells me that you might be a person who views the world through fun colored lenses.

AUGH! I just had three paragraphs of analysis of this work and lost it all when I tried to post! So, I'll try again!.

The visual references in this work to the military and the office of the President suggest to me that you are a very patriotic person; devoted to country and willing to defend it.

The Frankenstein, Spiderman, pirate patch, feindish alien mask and Edgar Allan Poe images with text imply that you like mystery, suspense, action and intrigue; you might even enjoy adrenaline "highs." The vampire teeth suggest you have a sense of humor, or....let's just go with "a sense of humor!"

The guitar and mandolin images at the right and left ear areas of the piece suggest that you are not only a musician, but you enjoy listening to music as well (which may be a no-brainer!)

The dog and reference to Super Grover tell me that you are an involved family man. The Steelers banner indicates love of football and the team you most likely support. The Titleist suggests that you golf and the "busy-ness" of the piece as a whole implies that you are an actively involved person with varied passions, interests, and talents, but the color and joy that the imagery projects indicate you wouldn't have it any other way!

Wow, so much going on here and I cant see the image while typing so VTSing is difficult. From the shape of the collage I see a self-portrait of a man who is interested in music, comedy, country, his dog and spiderman!
